COVID-19 has turned many global industries on their head, and the spa and wellness industries were unfortunately not spared. Here in New York, spas are still not operating their normal full range of service and this can wreak havoc on our complexions if we’re not properly prepared for a home care routine. All hope is not lost and as a licensed esthetician since 2017, I’m sharing my current summer 2020 skincare routine for sensitive and acne-prone skin. The products I’m using are expensive( a complete customized routine for around $230) but the results are so much better than anything you can expect from drugstore brands. Your skin is worth the investment.  As always, remember to follow me on social media @beautytraducida for more daily multilingual skincare recommendations.

Step:Remove makeup/sunscreen

What I like: For my eye makeup I use Bioderma Sensibio and it works great as it doesn’t irritate the sensitive area. To remove my sunscreen I’ve been loving the Bioelements Sensitive Skin Cleansing oil and a small amount of the product goes a long way so I recommend you opt for the mini size as it’s much cheaper than the bigger size.

Why you need to do it: Removing your makeup at night not only helps your skin breathe and repair itself but also prevents infections, especially if you leave your mascara on overnight.

Step: Second cleanse

What I like: I love the Biologique Recherche line of products because they are such fantastic value and quality. I’ve been using the Lait Vip 02 cleansing milk for the past week and my skin really likes it.

Why you need to do it:Even with the most expensive and highly recommended product, if you only wash your face once, I guarantee you are not removing all traces of foundation or sunscreen. Do a test wipe with your favorite micellar water after washing your face to see if your cleanser is effective enough and let me know in the comments what was on the cotton round.

Step:Tone/ exfoliate once a week

What I like: One of the most famous Biologique Recherche products is P50 and for good reason as it helps exfoliate, tone and cleanse the skin, prepping it for the luxurious serums and masks that should follow in your routine. I’ve been using P50 three times a week  and can see a difference in the hyperpigmentation on my upper lip and the amount of congested pores on my nose. In the past I’ve also used the DMK Foamy Lift mask on a bimonthly basis however I recommend selecting one or the other as they are both powerful exfoliators that can do more harm than good if misused. Both products are only available with an esthetician who will help you select the best products for you.

Why you need to do it: This toning lotion has been marketed as a facial in a bottle and although it may need to be used on a diluted cotton pad because of the potent ingredients, I see and feel an immediate difference in my skin when I use it.  The DMK Foamy Lift mask is great for improving facial blood circulation and exfoliating your skin so that your products are better absorbed.

What I like: Biologique has a serum for every skin care concern under the sun and I’m currently using Oligo- Proteins Marines Serum for nights when my skin looks tired and sallow and Serum Pigm for my targeting the hyperpigmentation around my upper lip and any sun damage on my cheeks.

Why you need to do it: If you aren’t willing or able to invest in a complete skincare routine from a single line, I suggest that you at least invest in a good serum and eye cream as these ingredients will be absorbed my the skin and not rinsed off like other steps. I alternate depending on what my skin needs in the moment. Serums are the most important skincare product that you need in your routine. Most spas that carry the line are able to provide you with samples so that you can test out the product or purchase a smaller size before you commit to a full sized product.

Step: Eye cream

What I like: I’ve been using the Avène Soothing Eye Contour Creme and I really like it as I feel it is comparable to more expensive brands.

Why you need to do it: Consider the skin around the eyes is more fragile, more prone to dryness, and quicker to show age and fatigue. The final step in my skincare routine is applying a hydrating eye cream and this is also something I do in the morning before applying concealer.
